Robert Alan Espino thoughtfully included an image of sculptor Paul Manship's (1886-1966) Prometheus (1934). Though Manship himself didn't particularly care for this 18-foot, 8-ton, gilded bronze set atop a fountain, it's inarguably his best known work.
Set directly west of Sky Mirror in its permanent spot between the Ice Rink and the entrance to the GE Building, Prometheus' gold leaf gilding was restored in 1999 to its intended shining splendor. It is not, however, as shiny as a 35-ft. diameter polished stainless steel disc. One can almost hear Prometheus grinding his teeth as he waits for his temporary Plaza mate to vacate the premises, leaving him once again alone in the spotlight.
(Apologies to both Aeschylus and Shelley for the tongue-in-cheek title assigned to this shot.)
