From Robert Alan Espino, photographer:
- I could not find Sky Mirror when I turned 49th Street into Rockefeller Plaza. I called a friend and asked him where it was; we were under the impression that it would be by the skating rink. I walked along the wall of the Met Museum Shop and turned the corner into the center gardens. There it was at the Fifth Avenue entrance, the Sky Mirror in all its glory. I must say that it did take my breath away.
Watching the locals and tourists interact with Sky Mirror was interesting. Some could have cared less about it - just another nuisance blocking the flow of foot traffic between 49th and 50th Streets. The interested majority were many and strong. Anyone with 15 minutes to spare took photos in front of and behind it, while others just photographed the sculpture itself. It certainly was a welcome distraction to the streets of New York.
