Frank Stella on the Roof

May 1-October 28, 2007 at The Metropolitan Museum of Art

From Shelley Esaak, About.com

The Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Roof Garden at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art has played host to single-artist installations each year since 1998, and 2007 is no exception. The tenth annual presentation features the work of American artist Frank Stella (b. 1936), focusing here on the stainless steel, carbon fiber and carbon epoxy composite freestanding sculptures that Stella began producing in the 1990s.

Running concurrently with Frank Stella: Painting into Architecture (inside and downstairs at The Helen and Milton A. Kimmelman Gallery, Lila Acheson Wallace Wing) from May 1-July 29, Frank Stella on the Roof will remain on view through October 28, 2007. Here is a selection of photographs of the sculptures as seen in their temporary roost, overlooking Central Park and surrounded by some panoramic views of the Manhattan skyline.
