The progression--from idealized, formal realism to abstraction--is fascinating. You could almost trace the history of Modern Art by viewing Krehbiel's works in chronological order.

Life:

Albert Krehbiel's long, ever-evolving artistic career saw him awarded numerous honors both in the U.S. and abroad. He was also an indefatigable instructor, teaching at the Art Institute of Chicago (40 years), the Illinois Institute of Technology (32 years) and the summer painting schools he founded in Saugatuck, Michigan (for nearly 20 years). He is best known for Midwestern and Southwestern landscapes, Chicago street and river scenes and commissioned murals.
