Impressionism, in its infancy, wasn't the art movement we see it as today. Impressionism was a loose affiliation of rebellious, radical French artists with ideas and ideals to prove. Impressionism is, in hindsight, the tipping point at which art slid forever into the modern age.
Words alone cannot convey the singular influence Impressionism had on All Things Art afterwards. We can, however, look at the artists who developed it, their influences, those Modern artists who were influenced by Impressionism, facts and fictions, chronology, some excellent bibliographic resources and a bit of contemporary scuttlebutt from the mouths of those involved.
