About the Show:

The Third Mind: American Artists Contemplate Asia, 1860-1989 illustrates the influences of Asian art, literature, music and philosophical ideals on American artists during a 129-year period. The exhibition features nearly 250 works by more than 100 artists and writers, and includes painting, sculpture, video art, installations, works on paper, film, live performance, literary works and ephemera.

The Third Mind was drawn from over 100 major museum and private collections in North America, Europe, and Japan, and made possible by a Chairman's Special Award from the National Endowment for the Humanities. On view from January 30 through April 19, 2009 at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York.
