The years from 1864 to 1874 witnessed the evolution of Camille Pissarro (1830-1903) from a student of the Barbizon school to innovative Impressionist, particularly in terms of his landscapes. Through 45 paintings, Pissarro: Creating the Impressionist Landscape explores the development of this daring nineteenth-century artist from his traditional Salon paintings of the 1860s to works created for the first Impressionist exhibition of 1874. Viewers witness changes in Pissarro's palette, painting technique and subject matter during a brief formative decade of his career in this ticketed international loan exhibition.
"Pissarro: Creating the Impressionist Landscape" is on view from February 11 through May 13, 2007 at the Baltimore Museum of Art, 10 Art Museum Drive, Baltimore, MD 21218 (Telephone: 443-573-1700; Website). Admission to the exhibition is $15.00 for adults, $12.00 for seniors, $10.00 for students with valid school identification and $6.00 for children 6 to 18 years of age. General admission to the museum is free. Travels next to the Milwaukee Art Museum (June 9-September 9, 2007) and the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art (October 7, 2007-January 6, 2008).
