Drawn from the remarkable collection of the Musée du Louvre, this exhibition examines aspects of Roman art through works from the first century B.C. through the early fourth century A.D. More than 180 objects, including mosaics, frescoes, terracotta statuettes, monumental sculptures, sarcophagi, reliefs, and glass and metal vessels were arranged thematically to highlight contrasts and underscore continuities in artistic manifestations of Roman public and private life.
Roman Art from the Louvre was organized by the American Federation of Arts and the Musée du Louvre, and supported by an indemnity from the Federal Council on the Arts and the Humanities. It was on view at the Indianapolis Museum of Art (September 23, 2007-January 6, 2008), the Seattle Art Museum (February 21-May 11, 2008) and the Oklahoma City Museum of Art (June 19-October 12, 2008).
