About the Show:
Picasso in The Metropolitan Museum of Art is one of those monumental, "Why hasn't this been done before?" exhibitions, wherein a museum culls from its own stupendous collection the works of one artist and mounts them for the world's viewing pleasure. Here, we are presented with 300 objects, executed by Pablo Picasso between the ages of 18 and 87, illustrating every phase of his multi-faceted career. Blue Period, Rose Period, Cubism, Classicism, brushes with Surrealism, late period bullfighters and distorted women--they're all included in 34 paintings, 58 drawings, a dozen sculptures and ceramics, and an extensive selection of prints.
Picasso in The Metropolitan Museum of Art was organized by Gary Tinterow, Engelhard Chairman, with Susan Alyson Stein, Curator, both of the Metropolitan's Department of Nineteenth-Century, Modern, and Contemporary Art. The exhibition is on view from April 27 through August 15, 2010 at The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
