On View September 11, 2009-January 10, 2010 at the Albertina, Vienna

By , About.com Guide

Impressionism: Painting Light is an aptly-named show focusing on Impressionist and Post-Impressionist artists' works and working methods. In addition to 137 paintings, the exhibition contains 56 historical painting utensils and objects used by artists in their everyday lives to keep the creative juices flowing. Further displays allow visitors to study x-ray and infrared scans of some of the works, thus letting the viewer "see" what the artist saw while moving from blank support to finished piece.

Impressionism: Painting Light was organized by the Wallraf-Richartz-Museum & Fondation Corboud, Cologne, the lender of 75 paintings to the Vienna show. The exhibition is on view from September 11, 2009 through January 10, 2010 at the Jeanne and Donald Kahn Galleries, Albertina, Vienna, and includes works by Courbet, Caillebotte, Manet, Monet, Renoir, Cézanne, Pissarro, Signac and van Gogh among others.
