April 21, 1509 was the date that a teenaged Prince of Wales became Henry VIII of England. For a multitude of reasons, both pleasant and otherwise, he went on to become one of the most famous kings in history. Here, though, the Royal Collection and the St George’s Chapel archives are marking the 500th anniversary of his ascension with a special exhibition of paintings, drawings, manuscripts and objects created during Henry VIII's lifetime or resulting from his reign.
Henry VIII: A 500th Anniversary Exhibition is on view through April 18, 2010. The show is included with admission to Windsor Castle. Below you'll find a sampling of some of the treasures on display.
