Vlaminck, a Fauvist Instinct

On View at the Musée du Luxembourg, Paris, February 20-July 20, 2008

By , About.com Guide

Vlaminck, a Fauvist Instinct concentrated on the years 1900 to 1915 in the much longer career of French painter, printmaker and writer Maurice de Vlaminck (1876-1958). From the turn of the century to the beginning of World War I, Vlaminck's work progressed from Post-Impressionist influences, through Fauvism and into a form of colorful Expressionism that would aid the Cubists and foretell Abstract art.

The 90-plus works on display were borrowed from public and private collections in Europe and the United States. The exhibition was organized by the Musée du Luxembourg, Paris, which was the sole venue to host Vlaminck, a Fauvist Instinct.
