About the Show:

What was the secret to Lucas Cranach the Elder's success? This comprehensive exhibition, organized by the Städel Museum and supplemented by numerous national and international loans, offers more than 100 authenticated works by the German master in an attempt to answer the question. Cranach the Elder surveys six decades of the artist's work, illustrating his versatile ability to jump from mythology and landscape paintings, to parody and genre scenes, to altarpieces and other commissions by Catholic Church officials, to some of the most iconic portraits to came out of the Reformation period.
