Cézanne to Picasso: Ambroise Vollard, Patron of the Avant-Garde is the first comprehensive exhibition devoted to the French art dealer and publisher Ambroise Vollard (1866–1939). The full exhibition contains some 100 paintings, along with ceramics, sculpture, prints, and livres d'artistes (limited-edition artists' books) commissioned and published by Vollard, all of which illustrate his superb eye, patronage of artists and unique place as a singular influence on Modern Art.
Included in this gallery is a selection of works from the much larger exhibition. Artists represented here are the painters Paul Cézanne, Vincent van Gogh, Paul Gauguin, Edgar Degas, Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Maurice de Vlaminck, André Derain, Pierre-Auguste Renoir and Pierre Bonnard, and the photographer Thérèse Bonney.
