On View February 13-June 6, 2011 at The Museum of Modern Art, New York

Picasso: Guitars 1912–1914 explores the artist's Guitars series, the art-historic turning point that moved Pablo Picasso from Analytic to Synthetic Cubism in the space of 18 months. This remarkable exhibition brings together many of his guitar drawings, paintings, collages, photographs, one noteworthy cardboard construction and a final, metal sculpture from over 35 public and private collections worldwide. We marvel at them now but, as Picasso said to his friend the art critic André Salmon at the time, "It's nothing. It's el guitare!"

Please see Contributing Writer for Modern Art Beth Gersh-Nesic's lengthy, informative review "The Birth of Synthetic Cubism: Picasso's Guitars" for a in-depth analysis of the Guitars series.

Picasso: Guitars 1912–1914 is on view from February 13 through June 6, 2011 at The Museum of Modern Art, New York.
