Pinturicchio in Umbria

February 2-June 29, 2008

From Shelley Esaak, About.com

This special exhibition focuses on the work of Early Renaissance painter Bernardino di Betto (ca. 1452-1513) who went by the name Pinturicchio and trained in his native Perugia. Though often overshadowed today by his contemporaries Perugino and Raphael, Pinturicchio was immensely successful in his time for his numerous frescoes and occasional easel paintings. For your online enjoyment, we have a modest sampling of both here, along with an amazing altarpiece.

Pinturicchio in Umbria is organized as an itinerary and allows the viewer to see the artist's works situated in their original locations across the region. Churches, museums and foundations in Perugia, Spello, Trevi, Spoleto, Orvieto and Città di Castello are included in this cooperative exhibition. Information on ticketing prices, opening hours and venues can be found on the Pintoricchio website.
