Life:

Erasmus, II, (whose last name is also recorded as "Quellinus") was born into a family of artists - mainly sculptors. Nonetheless, he chose painting as his métier, and was fortunate to have been one of Peter Paul Rubens' many pupils. His works reflect popular themes of the day, specifically the Counter Reformation and scenes from mythology. He often collaborated with fellow Flemish painters who were also trained by Rubens.
