December 12, 1863, Löton, Norway
Munch is best known for his intensely-colored images of human anxiety and death (two experiences he, sadly, felt or witnessed often in his life). Besides painting, he was a prodigious printmaker, working in etching, lithography and wood engraving. His work greatly influenced German Expressionism in the early 20th century.
