Realism

October 23, 1844, Cologne, Germany

Leibl never succumbed to the Romantic movement that was prevalent in German art during his day. As well as influencing many painters in Munich during his lifetime, his later work was embraced by the New Objectivity movement that arose in Germany during the Weimar Republic.

  • Three Women in Church, 1878-81
  • Der Spargroschen, 1879

Date and Place of Death:

December 4, 1900, Peppering Castle, Wurzburg, Germany
