Fauvism, then invented Cubism with Pablo Picasso

May 13, 1882, Argenteuil-sur-Sein, France

Life:

Braque briefly painted in the Impressionistic style before his Fauvist period. He and Pablo Picasso (coinventors of Cubism) shared a similar style for a time, although Braque showed a more restrained palette and respect for two-dimensional design principles. In addition to painting and collage, Braque also worked in lithography, sculpture and engraving, and was the first living artist to have his work exhibited at the Louvre.
