Movement, Style, School or Type of Art:

Northern Renaissance, Netherlandish

Year and Place of Birth:

(unknown) around 1450, s'Hertogenbosch, Netherlands

Life:

There's very little we do know about Bosch, including when he was born and the actual dates of his paintings. What is known is that, while the Renaissance was going on in Italy and Northern Europe, he was doing something completely different all by himself. His works are characterized by his immense imagination and full of unrecognizable landscapes where casts of people are doing...oh!...they're not really doing that, are they?

Important Works:

The Temptation of St. Anthony (triptych) (around 1500)
    Crowning with Thorns (after 1500)
The Garden of Earthly Delights (triptych) (1505-1510)
Date and Place of Death:

August, 1516, s'Hertogenbosch, Netherlands
