Overlooked by art historians, and considered a non-person by the Soviet Union, he nonetheless enjoyed a thriving career as an illustrator for magazines, print advertisements and books. He bequethed funding for a scholarship in his name to Boston University. Important Works: Best known for illustrated covers for top US magazines, including Vanity Fair, Fortune, The Saturday Evening Post and The New Yorker. (The latter two are remarkable because neither periodical used the same artists, except for Alajalov.)
