Life:
Sully, born in England to a theatrical family, got his start painting portraits of actors. His oils proved so popular with wealthy clientele, he was kept busy with portraiture (achieving an output of around 2,000 portraits, alone) until unable to paint. His subjects included most of the prominent United States politicians and socially elite families of his day, as well as a special commission to do a young Queen Victoria's coronation painting.
