Art, Artists and Katrina
Sunday September 4, 2005
Regular readers of the About Network are doubtless aware that we've been running special coverage on Hurricane Katrina, its aftermath and relief operations. It's a one-stop resource for all of the latest news, images, charitable efforts and - most importantly - lists, bulletin boards and other methods of locating people who are without phone service.
The damage at affected art museums, galleries, historic sites and sculpture gardens won't be fully assessed for some time, but a lot of people worked furiously to secure as much as they could before the hurricane hit. It could've been worse. The artists leading relief efforts are nearly all, of course, musical artists. And it bears repeating that disasters always seem to bring, like rats from the woodwork, scam and con artists to the forefront. All thoughts and prayers are with residents of the U.S. Gulf Coast.
