entire email. No salutation, no signature, no indication if s/he is talking about the sitter or if this person knows and it's some kind of test for Yours Truly - nope, nothing like all that. You hope time wasn't of the essence and there wasn't an emergency appendectomy in there someplace. Anyhow,
The Blue Boy did have a proper name: Jonathan Buttall. His father was a Soho blacksmith, not a Lord, so there's no clear reason why young Johnny was dressed like a cavalier. Oh, I also know that, when I was a kid, I saw at least 84,000 reproductions of this painting. Woolworth's used to sell it and "everybody" had one. Each one made me want to knock the bows right of his pointy little shoes and wash his face in some good old playground dirt. There, how's that?
