MoMA Reopens
Saturday November 20, 2004
All this week it was "MoMA" this and "MoMA" that, as befits an ahead-of-schedule grand opening of New York's Museum of Modern Art's $425 million (US) expansion. Nothing but raves for the architecture, though some writers have been critical of the "hang". (Considering the mind-boggling logistics involved in getting loaned and stored works back and installed rapidly, and the fact that this is the initial effort - and that a lot of Press got a free preview - I'd think some could be more generous about the first hang. But that's just me.) I meant to warn everyone in the Tri-State area to get to the MoMA today, because it was FREE, as opposed to the $20 adult admission ticket it will be tomorrow. (Being stricken by flu prevented typing this sooner, sorry. But I can tell you that Friday evenings, from 4 PM to 8 PM are also FREE. Go then, if you are a cheapska ... um ... frugal person like me.) Was just reading that 15,000 people were hip today - so maybe not going was an acceptable idea, too. Even though we've become a society of 5-second sound-bites and subliminal advertising, I do hate getting jostled and hustled past works of art that deserve lengthy contemplation.
