What is representational art?
Saturday January 24, 2004
This was an excellent question from a reader, and one that I have endeavored to answer here, rather than send an individual reply. Representational art simply means that we viewers are able to recognize an object (or objects) within the piece of art. Besides several links to images of representational vs. non-representational art, I had a few thoughts about why most people (self included) are more comfortable with the former. And, ironically, more wordy thoughts on the danger of using too many words when describing art...
Please keep writing and asking questions. The only way to make art enjoyable - as it should be - is to ask about those things that seem less than clear!
