Heads up: a number of new articles were posted for you on About Art History in August of 2012. Gail Myhre provided us with a review of the Michael C. Carlos Museum in Atlanta, Georgia, as well as two articles focusing on (1) a famous bust of the Emperor Tiberius, and (2) a Roman fresco that lay buried under 60-feet of Mt. Vesuvius' ash for 1700 years. All three are must-see reading for fans of Roman art.

As for me, describing the Fauves seemed like the perfect thing to do given the hot, clear light of August (and the fact that our sugar maples are beginning to show hints of red and orange amongst all of the green). You can read some thoughts about art and life from Leonardo, Pablo Picasso, and Vincent van Gogh, as well. Finally, I broke under the strain of yet another new semester's emails asking, "Why should I study art history?" to write five compelling reasons "Why You Should Study Art History." And kudos to me for sitting on my Mom persona; none of the reasons were "Because I SAID SO."
