Life Imitates Art that Imitated Life

Follow me on:

Andy Warhol's 32 Campbell's Soup Cans (1962) is 50 years old this year and, as we all know, half a century is one of those big birthday milestones. In order to celebrate, Target stores are offering a limited edition of Campbell's Cream of Tomato soup with Warholian-colored labels. The price? Seventy-five cents, which is a bargain -- if not as much a bargain as fifty cents would be. So maybe it's not cake and ice cream, but tomato soup has its uses. The one thing I can tell you for certain is that these cans will be carefully opened, rinsed without wetting their labels, and saved from the recycling bin.

Collectible, actual soup cans. Somewhere, Andy is laughing his fright-wigged head off.
