In a move that catches me by surprise no less than twelve times per year, it appears to be the end of the month. Things were written in said month. Also, it's been pretty hot so a blizzard doesn't sound like the bad idea it is in February. And this, Gentle Reader, is how that which passes for a headline is concocted around here. But, I digress.
To bring you up to speed, Gail S. Myhre, Correspondent for Museums and Special Exhibitions, dropped off a slew of articles and reviews for our enjoyment. As of today, you are invited to learn about: Glitter and Doom, a review of the exhibition that dealt with Weimar Republic art in its death spiral; an in-depth look at the Roman Mosaic from Lod, Israel; the exquisite Marble Vase with Panther Handles from Petra; and the Calaveras of José Guadalupe Posada, those slightly macabre Mexican "skull" etchings in which animated skeletons ... do things.
Additionally, you can read about artist Cy Twombly, a.k.a. "that guy who wrote on walls," or peruse a year-by-year chronology of Raphael's life -- still under construction, but dispels the myth he died from too much ... uh ... "pleasure." Not that there's anything wrong with that! (Hat tip to Jerry Seinfeld.) There may even be a new image gallery or two, and when I remember a specific direction in which to send you I will report back. Please don't hold your breath on future organization, though. My husband just asked what our checkbook was doing in the freezer ...
