Experience

Beth Susan Gersh-Nesic, Ph.D. is a former writer for ThoughtCo where she wrote about art history for more than seven years. Dr. Gersh-Nesic is the founder and director of the New York Arts Exchange, LLC., a business providing access to art education services through tours, lectures, and workshops. The Exchange works with groups of all sizes in venues which include museums, galleries, artists' studios, and arts organizations to encourage conversation about the arts. She lectures on Romanticism, Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Cubism, contemporary art, and many other topics.

Dr. Gersh-Nesic is an expert at art history and shares her knowledge through her many years of teaching. She teaches undergraduate art history at the College of New Rochelle, the Master in Gallery Management and Exhibits Specialization at the Western Colorado University, and is also an instructor at Purchase College, Mercy College, and the Manhattanville College, where she teaches French to English translation. Previously she taught at the New York University, Simmons College, Rhode Island College, and Hartwick College.

Dr. Gersh-Nesic took courses from some of the top art scholars during her graduate years including such notable instructors as John Rewald, Milton Brown, Linda Nochlin, and Jack Flam. Her doctorate dissertation examined Picasso's friend the art critic and poet André Salmon, was completed under the supervision of Rose-Carol Washton Long. She continues to write about and translate Salmon's art criticism in collaboration with Professor Emeritus Jacqueline Gojard, who is the executor of André Salmon's literary estate. Dr. Gersh-Nesic also contributes to BonjourParis.com, SmartHistory.com, and blogs on NewYorkArts-Exchange.blogspot.com.

Education

Beth Susan Gersh-Nesic earned a Doctor Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Art History from the City University of New York–Graduate Center. She also received a Master Arts (M.A.) and a Bachelor Arts (B.A.) from the State University of New York (SUNY)–Binghamton University.
