Nancy! I’m surprised!! Assyrian art may seem stilted at first glance, but many of the pieces that survive are filled with energy and life — their work seems to celebrate and work to be an embodiment of strength and masculine vigor.

An art with conventions? Oh, most certainly — but then, most art carries the conventions of its culture and age…it’s just that we notice some easier than others.

‘Sides…in clicking through, this particular piece is out of the legacy of Assyrian art. (Cultural conventions survive demise of culture — makes an interesting headline, eh?) :)
