The Annotated Fuld

Wednesday September 17, 2008
Here's a temporary installation I would love to take a stab at. Brooklyn artist Geoffrey Raymond paints large-scale portraits of famous (or infamous) figures--with a twist. He's begun taking these portraits to the scene of the crime Manhattan sidewalks and inviting the public to share their thoughts. With permanent markers, right on the canvas. Former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer drew a record +/- 350 comments, while musings on former Bear Stearns CEO James E. (Jimmy) Cayne's portrait were slightly less.

Well, hey! Raymond's latest portrait, of Lehman Brothers Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Richard S. Fuld, Jr., spent September 16 and will spend much of September 17, 2008 on Wall Street. And, apparently folks have already got plenty of comments for Mr. Fuld's likeness. Puh-len-tee of comments. Have a field day with this one, Wall Street denizens. And, when you pick up those markers, do not forget that Mr. Fuld reportedly received a $22 million US bonus in 2007 for his fine stewardship of Lehman Brothers. The End.

Oh, wait. P.S.:

Dear Geoffrey Raymond,

Best of luck on your sales of these innovative works, and please consider making your temporary blog not temporary. It's entertaining to zoom in and read the comments. Especially heartfelt sentiments such as, "Nice trade, Dick."

Sincerely yours,

Shelley Esaak
