Actually, this bust flatters the subject. He wasn’t known for his physical charms…but he was powerful enough without handsomeness.

I had guessed wrong, but was still very close. What a great article. I’d seen photos of this work from before the restoration, and hadn’t recognized it at all. What a huge difference!

Nancy and Beth, it is a wonderful article, isn’t it? Stan Parchin is an excellent art-historic scholar and writer. And Nancy, yes: Lorenzo was extremely powerful but far from handsome, bless his fabulously wealthy heart. I will always hold him dear for sponsoring so *much* visual art.
