Special Exhibitions Review: Renaissance Treasures at the Getty Center
Monday December 5, 2005
Stan Parchin, our very own intrepid late-medieval and Renaissance specialist, has just sunk his knowledgeable teeth into three of the same sorts of special exhibitions currently on view at the J. Paul Getty Museum in sunny southern California. Our friends at the Getty Press Office have generously allowed us to illustrate his findings with some splendid images from assorted Books of Hours and fragile Renaissance drawings. What this means for you is a splendid opportunity to read up on background information (and see some lovely pictures) associated with "Painted Prayers: Books of Hours from the Morgan Library", "A Masterpiece Reconstructed: The Hours of Louis XII" and "Drawings from Leonardo to Titian: A North Italian Itinerary." How cool is that?
Profuse thanks, as always, to Stan, who has finally been persuaded to pen a biography of his own. Though we don't know who reads, we'd like you to know who writes the About Art History website. (Hint: 32,000-years' worth of territory is a lot for anyone to cover, so your submissions are always welcomed.)
