Even More Kingly Art News
Sunday September 25, 2005
You know, I'm still not exactly sure what Elvis Presley was The King of - lots of seminal figures in rock and roll came before him; please forgive me, Elvis fans - but am up to speed on my English monarchs and this project sounds like a hoot. Rolf Harris, who hosts the BBC show Rolf on Art (which I've never seen, but understand is big in the UK) got a group of more than 100 artists together, each of whom painted a large-scale portion of the famous Hans Holbein, the Younger portrait of Henry VIII. The whole project was assembled - to create one giant portrait - in Trafalgar Square (and broadcast live on BBC One) today. Bet the results were almost as big old Henry VIII's ego, too.
