Artists' List: Left-Handed Artists

Friday June 10, 2005
escher_hands_blog.jpgThese lists are the sorts of things that trivia buffs (like me) enjoy. They're also occasionally useful in lesson planning or, if one is a student, finding an artist about whom to write. This first non-movement list is dedicated to left-handed visual artists because (1) I am one and (2) it's not easy being left-handed (especially when one is so profoundly left-handed a manual can opener poses a problem). If you've ever smeared your way through an entire drawing/painting/line of calligraphy while obliviously continuing to draw/paint/ink, you're groaning and nodding your head right now. Please, if you know of a left-handed artist who's not listed, drop me a line so that he or she may be added. Southpaws everywhere will thank you.

a nice compilation – would love to chat more about your life as a lefty – i find it fascinating; there is such a difference between righty thinking and lefty thinking – don’t you think?!!

Hi
very interesting these listings of left handed artists.
im curious about actual citations regarding Da Vinci, Michaelangelo, Durer, Toulouse-Lautrec, MC Escher and Rubens. If you know of any texts which elaborate on this left-handedness, could you let me know? It would be very helpful for my research.
thanks!
