Bird in Space Soars at Auction
Friday May 6, 2005
Wednesday's $142.8 million (US) sale of Impressionist and Modern Art at Christie's is being hailed as a saving, pulling-the-market-out-of-a-possible-slump grace of sorts. I must take the words of others about impacts and ramifications; the dollar sums alone move such doings light years beyond any possible first-hand knowledge. However, I did understand, and was glad to see Constantin Brancusi getting his "props." His marble Bird in Space (1919) fetched $27,456,000, a new record price for a sculpture.
