Walking Tour of "The Gates"
Saturday February 26, 2005
Contributing Editor to Museum/Special Exhibitions, Stan Parchin, recently donned his Jimmy Olsen/Environmental Art hat and braved the crowds in New York City's Central Park to shoot us a small walking tour of The Gates. I am profusely grateful, as Stan gave up most of a free Saturday just to be nice. There have already been ample reviews of this installation, both pro and con, as well as numerous news items about and interviews with Christo and Jeanne-Claude. No editorializing from me, who didn't visit The Gates in person, except to say two things.
- Stan's images are copyrighted to him and not for resale. They exist purely for reader viewing enjoyment. If any money was changing hands, I'd be tempted to request that every penny of it be put toward a foundation for representational art. But, it's not.
- Hargo, the "Somerville Gates" guy, his wife, Patricia, and his cat, Edie, sound like they're more fun to hang around with. Just my humble opinion, of course.
