Yoko Ono is marvelous, in my book

Thursday September 9, 2004
She brought worldwide attention to Performance Art. She supports art education, not with lip service but with cold hard cash. She has never, not once, wavered in her message of peace - not even when met with the most personal violent tragedy a person can suffer. And I must say, I think her brave, in that she has revived "Cut Piece" (renamed "Whisper Piece") a full 40 years after first performed. If you're not familiar - and I certainly was not, in 1964, being quite young - Cut Piece invited audience members onstage, and offered each scissors with which to cut away the artist's clothing. In 1964, she left the stage completely naked. Yoko is a 71-year-old grandmother, these days. I envy her self-confidence!
