Art History 101: An Overview of Ancient Greek Art
Sunday August 15, 2004
High time this got written, what with the Olympics going on in Athens and all. In reality, where I once thought a single article would suffice for Greek Art, it only serves as a starting point. After all, we're talking about 1,600-years' worth of Art History. Still, I do hope to stop peeling this onion soon ... you know, the one where eras lead to periods, periods to phases and so on. Unchecked, a person could find herself writing about how some guy named Spiro made red-figure vases for two months in 454 BC. It's a dangerous tendency, and one which smacks of the dreaded anal retention that artists everywhere have rebelled against since ... well, probably, before Spiro made those vases of his.
