Artists You Should Know: Bridget Riley
Thursday July 1, 2004
Reader Jill Davenport sent the nicest email, in which she said she liked the Op Art article, Op resources and accompanying list of selected Op artists. She wondered, though, if it would be possible to activate Bridget Riley's personal profile? Why, yes, Jill, of course - and not just because I was so happy to see a complimentary email.
Bridget Riley is one of my art Heroes. She has got to be one of *the* most dedicated artists to ever work. Over the years, she has never ceased to search for (and gain) deeper understanding of the ways in which humans see, and translate her findings into her works. Furthermore, I have always saluted her (in a distant, worshipful way - not a creepy, stalker way) as that rare woman artist who concentrates fully on art! Such dedication will forever be beyond me and, I suspect, many other women artists. She leaves me awestruck - which is probably why I hadn't yet gotten brave enough to write anything about her. Thanks for the courage, Jill!
