New Image Resource Costs How Much?!
Friday April 16, 2004
I got a news release that ARTstor is now available for subscription. It sounded promising - the database currently holds 300,000 art images (with 500,000 anticipated by the summer of 2006), is run by a non-profit organization, is dedicated to helping students everywhere, yadda, yadda. Besides, I keep a keen eye out for the word "images", because obtaining permissions to run anything here is such a horror story in itself. Well - yoiks! The subscription rate, per year, for a Very Large Institution (their classification, not mine) is priced at $20K, with a one-time Archive Capital Fee of $40K. Naturally, rates decrease in ratio to an institution's size, right on down to $1,200/year for Community Colleges. None of this does me any good - they don't allow individual subscriptions, or commercial use and if I had that kind of money to blow I'd buy a small island or finally get my own pony - but perhaps the above URL will be of interest to your Institution.
