Art History 101: The Proto-Renaissance

This week we dive into the nuts and bolts of all those separate phases that comprise what we now call "The Renaissance". (High time, too.) The first period, the "Pre-" or "Proto-" Renaissance, represents a very gradual shift in art which occurred, for a number of reasons, in northern Italy roughly between 1200 and 1400.
