Art History: Women Artists
Thursday November 20, 2003
Jone Johnson Lewis, Guide to the most excellent About Women's History site, was generous enough to point out that a rather large gap here needed filling. As a woman artist myself, I heartily agree and, as a new Guide, am grateful for her sage advice. I'm really looking forward to adding many more profiles of women artists, as there are hundreds who've not gotten the recognition they deserve.
On an unrelated but fascinating note, Walter Mosley, speaking on NPR Morning Edition, offered a commentary today in which he expressed his thoughts on the perfect museum. He feels we should wrest control of collections by creating our own - specifically, by carrying portable art (of our choosing) in our pockets. His proposal of gathering with friends to compare "museums", especially over lunch, sounded like an entirely Good Time. (If I may be so bold, it also sounds like a great opportunity for lunch with wine.)
