It Pays to be Considerate

Your mother was right, you know. One should always be kind to others. If you are on the Admissions Board of a University, for example, you should ask yourself "Is this person going to go on to become wealthy and amass a priceless art collection?", before denying his/her application. As was reported in the Montreal Gazette today, Queen's University is getting a fabulous collection of Dutch art (including Canada's fourth Rembrandt), courtesy of industrialist Alfred Bader. Why? They didn't turn him down for admission. Two other Canadian institutions did, in 1941, when their respective quotas of Jewish students had already been filled.
