Goya's Self-Portrait?

The novelist, Siri Hustvedt, wrote in a recent column for the Guardian Unlimited's Observer that she believes she may have discovered a cleverly disguised self-portrait in Francisco de Goya's anti-war masterpiece The Third of May. She bravely admits that she thought at first she was either seeing things or had clearly been staring at the painting for much too long. However, we are all invited to scrutinize the lower left hand portion (just above where the corpses are stacked) and decide for ourselves. Now, if I could just remember where the magnifying lens is...
